The Woodlands is set to host one of the most exciting athletic events of the year — the 2025 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN North American Championship Texas — on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Athletes from across the globe will descend on our community to test their endurance across a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile run, all within or around The Woodlands.
Whether you’re navigating around road closures or looking for the best spots to cheer on the competitors, here’s everything local families need to know about this incredible event.
The Race Course at a Glance
Start Time: Early morning, April 26
Swim: 2.4 miles in Lake Woodlands (start at North Shore Park, finish at Town Green Park)
Bike: 112 miles, including loops on the Hardy Toll Road
Run: 26.2-mile, three-lap course through The Woodlands, finishing on Waterway Avenue

Traffic Alerts & Road Closures
Families in The Woodlands should expect road closures and traffic detours beginning as early as 5:00 AM on race day. Plan ahead and allow extra travel time if you're heading out.
Key closures include:
- Lake Robbins Dr (eastbound) from the community center to Six Pines Dr: Closed from 5 AM–midnight.
- Grogan’s Mill Rd: Southbound closed 7 AM–10:30 AM; northbound impacted until 6:15 PM.
- Alternate routes include Lake Woodlands Dr and Six Pines Dr.
Early voting at the South Regional Community Center will remain accessible — use Grogan’s Mill Rd south from Research Forest or Lake Woodlands Dr.
Pro Tip for Parents: If your family has sports, errands, or appointments that day, consider adjusting schedules or routes to avoid race-related delays.
Best Family-Friendly Spots to Watch IRONMAN Texas

- Along the canal near Town Green Park (swim finish)

- Hippie Hollow – a whimsical area along the run course with colorful decorations and performers that’s especially fun after sunset
- North Shore Park – spacious and great for families to spread out
Finish Line:
- Waterway Avenue, near Waterway Square Place – an emotional and energetic finish you won’t want to miss
Where to Park
Free and paid parking is available at garages along Lake Robbins Drive. Please avoid parking at the H-E-B at Market Street or the Library, as they’re needed for event logistics and open to the public.
